We are hiring  a  Senior Specialist Automated Intralogistics Systems Expert (m/f/d) for our office in Duisburg

This role is responsible for the end-to-end planning, design, and implementation of automated intralogistics solutions for new and existing distribution centers. It combines deep technical expertise with strong operational understanding to develop scalable, reliable, and future-ready automation concepts that fit local operational requirements while supporting global standards and best practices.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Automation Concept & Technical Design

  • Analyze current and future operational processes, material flows, throughput requirements, storage needs, and site-specific constraints.
  • Develop and evaluate automation concepts using technologies such as ASRS, AMRs, AGVs, shuttle systems, conveyors, sortation systems, goods-to-person solutions, robotics, and other automated intralogistics technologies.
  • Translate operational requirements into clear functional specifications, performance criteria, interface requirements, and future-state operating concepts.

 

Planning & Realization

 

  • Lead automation projects from feasibility assessment and concept development through tendering, detailed design, installation, testing, commissioning, ramp-up, and stabilization.
  • Coordinate system integrators, equipment suppliers, consultants, construction partners, IT teams, maintenance and local operations.
  • Manage technical risks, design changes, open points, acceptance criteria, project documentation, and handover to operations.
  • Ensure that implementation activities are aligned with project timelines, business case assumptions, operational readiness, and quality expectations.

 

Warehouse Design & Engineering

 

  • Develop warehouse layouts and facility concepts that optimize material flow, space utilization, process efficiency, and automation performance.
  • Define storage systems, equipment requirements, process flows, operational interfaces, and infrastructure requirements.
  • Ensure that designs consider safety, ergonomics, maintainability, fire protection interfaces, and service access.
  • Collaborate with international operations teams to validate practical implementation requirements and ensure that concepts are operationally robust.

 

Systems Integration & Operational Readiness

 

  • Ensure effective integration of material handling equipment with WMS, WCS, controls, infrastructure, safety systems, and operational processes.
  • Plan training, maintenance concepts, spare parts strategies, hyper-care and operational handover.
  • Support stabilization and continuous improvement by optimizing system availability, throughput, process quality and operating cost.

 

Commercial & Stakeholder Management

 

  • Prepare technical specifications, tender documents, supplier clarifications, and acceptance criteria.
  • Evaluate supplier concepts, technical proposals, layouts, quotations and contractual technical requirements.
  • Contribute to CAPEX and OPEX estimates, business cases, RFIs, RFPs, RFQs and contract discussions.
  • Communicate complex technical topics clearly to senior stakeholders, project teams, suppliers, and local operations.

 

 

Qualifications & Skills

 

  • Degree in Automation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, Logistics Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related fields.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in planning and delivering automated warehouse or intralogistics projects.
  • Proven hands-on experience with automated intralogistics systems, including concept development, implementation, commissioning, ramp-up, and stabilization.
  • Broad technical understanding of mechanical equipment, controls, electrical systems, safety systems, interfaces, and warehouse software environments such as WMS and WCS.
  • Strong ability to review layouts, specifications, technical proposals, test plans, performance data, and supplier documentation.
  • Strong project, vendor, and stakeholder management skills in international and cross-functional environments.
  • Team-oriented, proactive, structured, and solution-driven mindset.
  • Fluent English (written and spoken), strong communication skills, and readiness for international travel.
