ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Data Engneering Manager to join our TechHUB in Kuala Lumpur!

Lead a team of Data Engineers and ML Engineers within the Kuala Lumpur Technology Hub to deliver high-quality, reliable data products and machine learning solutions on Azure Databricks. Own end-to-end engineering delivery for data pipelines, curated datasets, and ML engineering outcomes (feature/serving pipelines and model integration), ensuring strong engineering practices (version control, testing, CI/CD), data quality, observability, and operational readiness. Act as a hands-on technical leader (player/coach) while managing team capacity and performance, partnering with Product, Architecture, Data Governance, and MLOps/Platform teams to deliver business value through trusted data and production ML.

THE SKILLS

To set you up for success in this role, here are some key skills that will help you:

  • Core tech stack (hands-on): Azure (ADLS, ADF), Azure Databricks (Spark/Delta/Lakehouse patterns), Python, SQL, Git, CI/CD (Azure DevOps or GitHub), orchestration (ADF and/or Databricks Workflows/Jobs), and observability/monitoring for data pipelines. Preferred: dbt and modern data quality tooling (validation, reconciliation, data contracts).
  • 8+ years in data and/or software engineering roles, including hands-on delivery on Azure Databricks, with 3+ years of people management.
  • Strong hands-on expertise in building and operating data products: batch/streaming pipelines, incremental processing, curated data layers (lakehouse/medallion patterns), data modeling, and data quality controls.
  • Solid Python, SQL, and Spark engineering skills (performance tuning, partitioning strategies, cost/performance trade-offs in Databricks jobs and clusters).
  • Experience with data integration and orchestration patterns (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Databricks Jobs/Workflows), including robust error handling, retries, idempotency, and operational runbooks.
  • Experience applying DataOps/DevOps practices to data and ML engineering: Git-based workflows, CI/CD, automated testing, observability/monitoring, and release discipline.
  • Working knowledge of security and governance expectations in enterprise data platforms (e.g., access controls/RBAC, secrets management, auditability, and governed data access such as Unity Catalog), partnering with Platform/Security teams for implementation.
  • Experience leading delivery of ML engineering outcomes (e.g., feature pipelines, training/serving integration) in partnership with Data Science and MLOps (model lifecycle, deployment and monitoring).
  • Proven ability to coach and develop engineers, run high-performing teams, and manage delivery commitments across multiple stakeholders.
